Social Commerce and TikTok Shop Growth
Social commerce is changing how products are discovered. Instead of shoppers beginning with a search box, many now begin with a video, creator recommendation, livestream, or short-form trend. TikTok Shop is the clearest example of this shift.

Momentum Works reported that TikTok Shop generated $15.1 billion in U.S. GMV in 2025, representing 68% year-over-year growth. The same February 2026 summary said TikTok Shop’s global GMV reached $64.3 billion in 2025, up 94% year over year across 16 markets. These figures are third-party estimates, but they are useful directional evidence that TikTok Shop has become a serious commerce channel.
TikTok Shop also changes the seller operating model. On Amazon, sellers often optimize search rank, reviews, ads, catalog structure, and fulfillment. On TikTok Shop, sellers must also manage content velocity, creator relationships, affiliate commissions, livestream operations, trend timing, and impulse-driven demand spikes. That means inventory planning can become less predictable. A product may sell slowly for weeks, then spike after a single creator video.
For sellers, social commerce should not be treated as a replacement for marketplace fundamentals. It is an additional demand engine. The best candidates are products with clear visual appeal, easy demonstration, emotional hooks, strong before-and-after value, repeat-purchase potential, or a strong price-to-value story. Products with complex compliance, high return risk, or weak unit economics should be tested carefully.
FYERP can help sellers separate excitement from profitability. A social-commerce campaign should be measured by real contribution margin after affiliate fees, ad spend, fulfillment cost, return rate, and labor. Channel data should connect back to inventory and finance, not live in disconnected spreadsheets.
The future of commerce is not only search-based. It is content-driven, creator-influenced, and increasingly AI-assisted. Sellers that connect social discovery to disciplined operations will have the advantage.
