Prime Video Commits More Than $2 Billion to Latin America

Amazon

Amazon is making a larger, longer-term bet on Latin American streaming. Prime Video says it will invest more than $2 billion in the region between 2027 and 2030, covering original programming, locally produced and acquired content, and live sports rights.

The plan spans Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. Amazon also says Prime Video will more than double its Local Originals output across those markets compared with 2026, with more than 25 new titles planned for 2027. The announcement came at the company’s first Prime Video Presents Latin America showcase in Mexico City on August 20.

For sellers and e-commerce operators, this is not a direct marketplace-policy change. Its importance is strategic: Amazon is putting more capital behind locally relevant entertainment that can deepen engagement with the broader Prime ecosystem. Brands serving these markets should watch for new audience moments around major releases and sports programming, especially where retail media, social creative, and promotional calendars can reinforce one another.

The practical response is to improve localization rather than simply translate existing campaigns. Operators should review country-level search language, product positioning, imagery, and promotional timing separately for Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. Teams using Amazon Ads should also monitor whether Prime Video inventory and regional entertainment launches create useful new reach or retargeting opportunities, while measuring performance market by market.

The announcement is an early planning signal, not proof of immediate sales lift. The strongest operators will test around relevant programming windows, compare incremental reach and conversion, and keep investment tied to measurable customer demand.
