Amazon Unifies AI Ad Buying: What Sellers Should Test First

Amazon

Amazon is putting more advertising decisions into a unified AI workflow. At its September 29 unBoxed announcements, the company named its combined advertising platform Amazon Ads Agent and expanded full-funnel campaign capabilities, according to Marketing Dive. For sellers, the practical question is not simply whether setup becomes easier, but which spending decisions remain under their control.

What is available, and what comes later

Marketing Dive reports that full-funnel campaigns are now available to all US advertisers. Advertisers supply products, creative and budget; Amazon’s AI handles planning, execution and ongoing optimization across channels. The separate DVA+ offering combines display, video and audio buying, including previously separate Sponsored Display and Sponsored TV workflows. Its rollout is scheduled to start in late October and continue through year-end, rather than being universally available today.

The control model differs between products. Digiday reports that DVA+ advanced settings retain controls such as targeting, supply sources, frequency and bidding. Full-funnel campaigns automate more of the media mix: advertisers approve creative but cannot select individual channels or specific audiences. Reporting offers format-level visibility, while Amazon says it is working on further audience transparency.

Operator analysis: test delegation, not just automation

Our recommendation is to treat the launch as a controlled experiment, not a reason to migrate an entire advertising budget immediately.

  • Verify the capabilities actually enabled in your account before planning a launch. Keep current campaigns operating while evaluating the new workflow.
  • Choose products with dependable inventory and clear contribution margins. Set an explicit test budget, review schedule and stop conditions before handing allocation decisions to AI.
  • Preserve a baseline from existing campaigns. Compare new-to-brand acquisition and total business results alongside attributed ad sales; do not assume platform-reported sales prove incremental demand.
  • Document which controls and reports each campaign type exposes. If channel exclusions or audience selection are essential to your plan, check those requirements before choosing a more automated format.
  • Review generated creative for product accuracy and brand claims before approval. Simpler production should not mean weaker content checks.

The operational opportunity is less manual coordination across formats. The corresponding discipline is to keep budget ownership, measurement definitions and creative approval explicit. These are testing recommendations, not a promise of improved returns.
