Amazon Clarifies Its 75-Character Product Title Rollout
Amazon
Amazon has clarified how its new product-title standard will work after the policy took effect on August 3. Product names are now limited to 75 characters, while sellers can place another 125 characters of key information in the Item Highlights field. Amazon says listings remain active, editable, and searchable during the rollout, and titles that are already within the limit and otherwise compliant will not be changed.
The operational change is broader than a simple character cut. Amazon says it began recommending AI-generated revisions for non-compliant listings on July 27 and will continue the process throughout 2026. Brand owners receive 14 days to review, modify, or approve a recommended change. Amazon also said the same title policy applies to its own listings.
Starting August 10, Item Highlights are scheduled to appear directly below the Item name on desktop and mobile. Amazon says Item name and Item Highlights both feed search and discoverability, without one being prioritized over the other. Sellers can also update both fields in bulk through the Category Listings report.
What sellers should do now
Audit high-traffic ASINs first and treat the 75-character title as the primary identification layer: brand, product type, and the most important variation attribute. Move secondary benefits, materials, compatibility details, or additional variation information into Item Highlights.
Do not assume an active listing needs no attention. Monitor Review Listing Changes during the 14-day window, keep a record of approved title language, and check mobile rendering after Item Highlights launch. Teams using bulk files should test a small batch before a catalog-wide upload and confirm that critical attributes remain accurate after processing.
The practical goal is not to compress every old keyword into a shorter line. It is to preserve shopper clarity and variation accuracy across the two fields while watching conversion and search-query performance for any meaningful change.
